Last year I graduated from college. I moved home. A got a job. This is the short answer. Over the past year, the question I have been asked the most is "What are you doing now?" Now being my life after graduation. I've got the diploma, where do I go now? So, here it is. Exactly what I've been doing in the past year as told in pictures.
Taylor Solomon, you just graduated from college, what're you going to do now? I'M GOING TO DISNEY WORLD! My parents picked me up the day after graduation and we headed to Orlando for a week at our home away from home.
This year we had a new addition to our family, our wonderful Tibetan Terrier, Sadie. (Isn't she adorable?! Don't you want more?! You can follow Sadie on instagram at @Lady__Sadie. Yes, that's with two underscores, and yes we are THOSE people)
I celebrated friendship. I made some amazing friends in college. This year was the first time we weren't all living within five minutes of each other. Before everyone went their separate ways into the "real world" we had an amazing friendshipalooza. I have been so blessed with this amazing group of women and have loved getting to see where life has taken them in this past year.
I moved home! I'm back in the Classic City living in the bedroom I spent most of my childhood in. An autographed Cobra Starship poster is once again the last thing I see every night before I fall asleep.
I rode on a plane by myself for the first time! And I really enjoyed it. Considering flying doesn't make me too nervous, I enjoy reading, and being by myself, this really was fairly zen experience. Though, I do still hold the arm rests during take off. And I missed a flight and spent the night in the Seattle airport.
I traveled to Texas for the first time! I have a lot of family from Texas and have always wanted to go. I visited a friend in Austin and spent a weekend exploring this wonderfully weird city.
From Texas I went to California to visit my West Coast Bestie (my Westie, if you will).
I found absolute tranquility.
I wore my Wonder Woman costume any chance I got.
I rode the Hogwarts Express!
I got the amazing opportunity to write for The Unslut Project. This project was started by Emily Lindin to undo the effects of slut shaming in our society. For more on The Unslut Project check out my blog post on it for the Georgia College Women's Center. All of my pieces for The Unslut Project can be found in the writing section of this site.
I worked hard and I played hard.
I spent so much time with my sister! It's been amazing to be back in the same town as her.
I turned twenty-three!
I came home to a town I thought I knew and discovered there was so much going on. I found new places to enjoy and take advantage of. For example, The Athens Farmers Market.
One of these amazing discoveries was The Broad Collective. This site, started by Josh and Alex Brown, has truly changed my life. It has given me a creative outlet and the opportunity to surround myself with some of Athens' greatest minds.
I've done a lot of reading. Athens is lucky enough to have an incredible indie bookstore, Avid Bookshop. I have spent a lot of my time here since coming back whether it be finding a new book to read, enjoying an author signing, or meeting with one of their many book clubs. This is seriously a very special place.
I visited Milledgeville! I couldn't stay away from the Antebellum Capital for long. I spent several weekends visiting friends and some of my favorite spots.
I started a new job! I work at my preschool alma mater as an after school teacher. It is here where I have discovered what I truly want to do with my life.
I proved to the world that I'm more than just a stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy looking Nerfherder.
I enjoyed the local treats I have loved, and discovered some new favorites.
So. Much. Mama's. Boy.
I ordered a Designing Women themed cookie cake.
I traveled with my family.
I discovered the Georgia Museum of Art, which quickly became the place I go when I need to get away.
I ate some really wonderful things.
I started kickboxing. Seriously, the greatest way to get your day started--punching and kicking.
I read a book IN BELLE'S HOUSE.
I got into graduate school! That is where my journey begins this year. Tomorrow I start my first class. Many adventures studying Early Childhood Education and Women's Studies to come!
Thanks to everyone who supported me in the past year, it's been a great one!
